| Interests while RV'ing: | Grandchildren: 9 yr old boy, 4 yr old boy, 1 yr old boy (not yet!), and cousins 6 yr old boy, 5 year old boy and 3 year old girl have traveled with the grandkids for several years with a pickup camper, first a popup and then a fixed camper. With the boys getting bigger the pickup camper was getting crowded. Last September (2007) I was Iin Colorado with the then 3 year old and I talked to a man in a campground with a 2004 Chevrolet Duramax. He was pulling a fifth wheel trailer and getting 15 MPG which was about what I got with the pickup camper. The difference was he had 10 times the room. That winter I started looking at fifth wheel trailers at the RV shows. For obvious reasons I was interested in a bunkhouse for the boys. Two months ago I was called by a dealer about 50 miles north of Des Moines who had taken the Ameri-Camp in trade. I wound up buying it. Actually its still at the dealer as of June 22, 2008 since my truck was hit and needs a new rear axle assembly. I hope to have the truck back this week and then pick up the trailer. I installed a Pullrite Superglide hitch Memorial Day weekend. I'm ready! Forth of July will be our shakedown cruise. I started camping as a child in the mid 1950's (tents) and have done a fair amount of back country canoeing (likewise with tents). In all fairness I regard RV's as a convenient way of traveling. I still feel camping involves tents! I'm 62 by the way. |
